On 28 Sep 1910, Morton was married to Anne Madelia Delia Stinson, the third of 5 children of Steen and Barbara Stinson (Refer to articles on Steen Stinson and Sjur Stinson.) They had met at a church social at the Orleans Church. She attended Breckenridge School in Decorah and taught for a year at the Orleans Township school. They lived first in Crary, then settled in Warwick, ND. Morton started a bank in Warwick, invested in land, helped many farmers get started, then suffered severe setbacks during the Great Depression. Two daughters were born in Warwick, Barbara (Gamache) and Marion (Skurdall). In 1940 Morton and Delia sold their home and shipped their piano out to Oregon. Morton worked as a government land appraiser in Medford, then in a bank in Portland. They later lived in Seattle, WA, and finally in Port Angeles on the Olympic Peninsula, where they are buried.

Although Morton and Delia left Iowa while they were in their twenties, they continued to feel strongly connected to Winneshiek Co. This special bond was especially evident from the warm-hearted, cheerful manner in which they told their stories about life on the farms in Orleans Twp. One of their grandchildren, Jim Skurdall, was inspired by the memory of those stories to visit Decorah, where he has been living since 1990. Palmer Orval Anderson was born 16 apr 1918 in Elma, IA, Howard Co. to George N. and Cora (Vaala) Anderson. George was born 28 Jan 1889 in Elma. Cora was born 25 Jan 1894 in Lawler, IA. George and Cora were married in 1913. Palmer’s brothers and sisters are; Cletus, killed in a farm accident in 1973; Edith Grosser, Decorah; M. Calvin, on his grandparents’ farm near Lawler; and David, New Hampton, IA.

Palmer married Audrey Huseby 6 Jun 1948 in Decorah, IA. Audrey was born 4 Nov 1923 iaGlenwood Twp. to Alvin and Noretta (Olson) Huseby. Alvin was born 7 Mar 1900 in Kindred, ND and Noretta was born 7 Aug 1899 in Pleasant Twp., Winneshiek Co. Audrey’s only sister is Frances Moerer of Brooklyn Center, MN.

Palmer and Audrey are members of the Jerico Lutheran Church, Jerico, IA. Palmer is a lifetime member of the congregation. He and Audrey are active members. Audrey taught Sunday School for 8 years.

Palmer and Audrey belong to Silvercrest Golf and Country Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and the Auxiliary and the Elk's Club.

Palmer was in the Army during World War II from 7 Oct 1941 to 3 Jan 1946. While overseas he was stationed on the island of Saipan. After discharge from the Army he became a partner with his brother-in-law, Walter Grosser, in “The Barbeque”, a restaurant in Decorah. Ten years later they sold the restaurant and formed “A and G, Co." which distributed Schlitz beer products throughout 5 coun
